Court Watching

Chicago Votes has worked to demystify the judicial system in Illinois by launching two, unique initiatives that educate voters around the judicial elections. The first is our judicial voter guide program and the second is our Court Watching program. Chicago Votes works with partners to give voters and volunteers a behind the scenes glance into the judicial process in Chicago.

Our Court Watching program is a means of judicial accountability. We are observing court proceedings and judges in Cook County in order to collect data on bias in the courtroom. Since its launch in August, our staff and volunteers have virtually completed hundreds Court Watching shifts.

If you are interested in volunteering with our court watching program to identify judicial bias, Court Watching trainings happen once a month on Zoom.
